A little local knowledge

Firepool is a town Centre development, off Priory Bridge Road, Taunton.  Somerset West and Taunton Council are redeveloping the vacant former cattle market site.  It is expected that a cinema, hotel and café, restaurants and specialists retails will be built.  As well as a cycle route along the water channel.

The site is well located within 10 minutes of Junction 25 of the M5 and within walking distance of Taunton Rail station. It is owned by various organisations, including Taunton Deane Borough Council, Network Rail, and Abbey Manor Developments.

Points of Interest

Pedestrian access runs between the station and the Firepool site, linking up with the existing temporary boulevard towards Somerset County Cricket Club and the wider town centre.

Things to See

If open green space is what you are seeking then Vivary Park inTaunton is the place to visit. It is close to Taunton town centre and covers 7.5 hectares of parkland. 

Places to eat

The site will eventually have restaurants for you to dine in and enjoy.  

Of course, being in close proximity to Taunton town centre means you are never far away from the cuisine of your choice. 

Things to do in the area

How about a walk along the 14 mile Bridgewater and Taunton canal?  The well-maintained towpath has interesting lock structures and makes for an idyllic walking and peaceful boating experience. 

Or maybe it is fascinating facts you prefer, how about a visit to the Museum of Somerset which is located in the 12th century great hall of Taunton Castle. It is a truly memorable experience, telling a story from prehistoric times to the present day, using real objects, interactive games, eye-catching film projections and the words and voices of Somerset people, past and present.
